SKU N/A Category

Aluen CAP is a slow-release oxalic acid strip treatment designed for controlling Varroa destructor in honey bee colonies

What it is & how it works

  • Active ingredient: Oxalic acid dihydrate
  • Each strip contains ~10 g oxalic acid in a slow-release matrix
  • Works via contact transfer as bees walk over strips and distribute it
  • Duration: ~42 days continuous release

👉 Unlike dribble or vaporisation, it keeps working across multiple brood cycles, catching mites as they emerge.

Dosage & placement

Standard Australian permit directions:

  • 8–10 frame hive: 4 strips
  • 5–6 frame nuc: 2 strips

Placement:

  • Lay strips across top bars of brood frames (e.g. frames 2, 4, 6, 8)
  • Must be in the active brood area

Duration:

  • Leave in hive 42 days, then remove and discard
  • Use only once per year
  • Do NOT use in consecutive treatment periods

🍯 Honey & residue

  • 0-day withholding after strip removal
  • Leaves no detectable residues in honey/wax when used correctly

👉 Big advantage vs amitraz strips.

  • Works with brood present (major advantage in Australia)
  • Continuous exposure improves mite knockdown over time
  • Organic acid → low resistance risk
  • Simple: one install + one removal

⚠️ Safety

  • Oxalic acid is corrosive/irritant
  • Wear:
    • Gloves
    • Eye protection
    • Protective clothing
  • Discard unused strips within 24 hours of opening
